management4health (m4h) supports the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the American University of Iraq Baghdad (AUIB) in the preparation of a comprehensive Feasibility Study and Environmental & Social (E&S) Scoping Study for the envisioned AUIB Teaching Hospital in Baghdad.
The assignment marked an important milestone in strengthening tertiary healthcare services and medical education capacity in the country.
As part of the studies, the m4h team undertook a mission to Baghdad from 02 to 07 May 2026 and consulted key stakeholders, including the Baghdad offices of the World Bank and WHO, the Ministries of Health and Environment, the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority, Baghdad Municipality, representatives of three private hospitals and Médecins Sans Frontières, as well as the AUIB Project Team.
As part of this strategic initiative, m4h:
- Assessed the technical, functional, and financial feasibility of the proposed Teaching Hospital.
- Developed a medical and functional programme aligned with projected service demand.
- Conducted environmental and social screening and defined mitigation measures in line with international standards.
- Provided evidence-based recommendations to inform investment decisions.
The planned Teaching Hospital is expected to:
- Enhance access to specialised and referral care.
- Strengthen clinical training and academic capacity.
- Improve quality standards and patient safety.
- Support long-term health system resilience.
The project aims to strengthen tertiary healthcare capacity in Iraq, enhance clinical training for future healthcare professionals, and establish a sustainable academic-clinical integration model aligned with international standards.
