The Jwandoon Card is a KfW supported programme launched by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government in Pakistan to provide free outpatient department medical services to economically vulnerable families. It is an expansion of the existing Sehat Card Plus scheme, which primarily covers inpatient services.
A key milestone, capacity building training under the OPC-Scheme has officially commenced at KMU Institute of Health Sciences (IHS), Mardan, in collaboration with management4health (m4h), Department of Health Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the State Life Insurance Corporation (SLIC).
Launched on 16th October 2025, the training will continue weekly until December 2025. It aims to enhance the skills of primary healthcare staff in implementing the capitation model and family practice approach – core elements for improving service delivery under the KfW Social Health Protection Phase: II pilot.
The opening session was graced by Dr. Riaz Tanoli (CEO, Sehat Card), Ms. Hameeda Mughal, Dr. Irum Sheikh (m4h), Brig. (R) Habib ur Rehman, and Mr. Bilal with his team from SLIC. Dr. Shoaib (DHO Mardan) also joined the session to ensure strong district-level coordination and support.
The training was led by Prof. Dr. Abdul Jalil Khan from Khyber Medical University, supported by Dr. Naveed, Dr. Hassam, and Dr. Hamid Habib (Director, KMU–IHS Mardan). Participants engaged in interactive sessions covering:
- The concept and framework of the capitation model
- Group discussions and case studies for practical understanding
- A hands-on demonstration of the digital registration software provided by SLIC
- A comprehensive session on the family practice approach and its operationalization in primary care settings
This initiative marks an important step toward strengthening primary healthcare delivery and ensuring the successful pilot implementation of the OPC component of Social Health Protection Phase: II in Mardan.
