Managing the BMZ web portal Healthy DEvelopments

Commissioned by the GIZ Sector Initiative Global Health, m4h created and maintained the Healthy DEvelopments web portal, a vital resource for documenting and sharing Germany’s contributions to health and social protection within global development cooperation.

The challenge

The GIZ Sector Initiative Global Health, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is tasked with managing knowledge related to health and social protection in German development cooperation. Innovations, successes, and lessons learned from various projects, as well as Germany’s contributions to global health initiatives, needed a platform for documentation and dissemination. This platform not only serves as a living archive but also informs the design of new projects and plays a crucial role in national and international debates on health and social protection.

The assignment

Since the portal’s inception in 2013, m4h has been responsible for:

• Portal management: Ensuring the smooth operation of the Healthy DEvelopments web portal, maintaining its role as a dynamic and reliable resource for the German development community.
• Content creation: Producing well-researched and substantiated content, including feature articles, podcasts, short films, and conference documentation, to support learning and innovation in health and social protection.
• Quality assurance:  Coordinating and overseeing the knowledge production process, ensuring that all content meets the highest standards of accuracy and relevance.

The results

1. Effective content management: m4h consistently responded to proposals from GIZ and KfW, collaborating closely with project teams to ensure the timely production and publication of high-quality content.
2. High-quality writing and research: A team of expert writers, all native speakers with specialised backgrounds in public health, social sciences, and journalism, produced well-researched content by conducting in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, resulting in a diverse array of articles, podcasts, and other media.
3. Well-maintained web platform: The portal was kept visually appealing and up-to-date, thanks to the dedicated efforts of a webmaster who ensured smooth operation and a clean user experience.
4. Enhanced online presence: Strategic social media promotion by a dedicated expert significantly increased the portal’s reach and engagement, effectively disseminating new content to a broader audience on platforms like LinkedIn and X.
