Social Health Insurance is instrumental in maintaining or extending universal health coverage. The Ethiopian National Health Insurance works to improve equitable access to health care and protect people from the financial risks of diseases. Still, improvements and innovative solutions are required to provide and secure access to quality care for all.

management4health (m4h) has been contracted by the European Union to support EHIS (Ethiopian Health Insurance Services) in the further development of an efficient and sustainable Health Insurance Information System platform.

To further strengthen its platform, EHIS has now organised a series of widescale capacity building trainings for CBHI enrolment officers (enrollers) and claim managers from EHIS as one of the key steps in the comprehensive scale-up of CBHI (Community Based Health Insurance) implementations and processes.

The purpose of this training was to equip participants with knowledge, skills and tools needed to successfully establish, promote, manage, sustain and scale-up a Community Based Health Insurance Scheme (CBHIS). The total number of individuals planned to be trained exceeds 1400 end users.

The first round of TOT was launched on September 5th with 33 selected EHIS employees and internal trainers who will preserve the sustainability of the knowledge transfer and ownership of the capacity building.

The training was honoured by the presence of the EHIS General Director, EHIS IT Director, and Addis Ababa Health Bureau Deputy Director.
