Between October 2015 and February 2016 a team of experts including Prof Oliver Rentzsch and Prof Michael Niechzial (m4h) conducted an assessment of 14 secondary and tertiary level hospitals located in different governorates of Syria to analyse and evaluate their capacity to provide adequate health services to the population in their respective catchment areas. The findings of the assessment provided the country’s health authorities and international partners with information on the impact the ongoing crisis has on health care delivery, and the ability of the health system to respond to challenges as well as needs for support. Recommendations outlined in the report provide strategies and suggestions to strengthen the capacity of the health system to respond to the identified health needs.
